Versions, Upgrades & Customization Management

This page provides information on upgrading GeoTalent from one version to another and managing any customizations through the upgrade process.

Current Software Version

The current software version for GeoTalent is Build: 2016.1.1.3010.

We support the current version and one version back, but with a support plan, the latest version is available to you without additional charge.

For information on our latest features and fixes or on upgrading to the latest software version, please contact support by emailing support @ geotalent.com or by using the toll-free direct phone number you were given with your plan.

Upgrades

GeoTalent core upgrades are very basic, as it generally involves a simple upgrade to the GeoTalent.exe file. All customizations will remain intact as they are stored in external files that are not created or modified during the upgrade process. Because the custom work is not touched by the upgrade, the impact of a core upgrade on the system is minimal.

The online upgrade process is dependent on which online module you are using, but may involve pages, portal settings and language tags.

Customizations

GeoTalent provides a mechanism for all customizations to be maintained during build and version upgrades. The system provides an upgrade path that minimizes the impact of system changes on customizations and configurations of the product. All customizations will remain intact as they are stored in external files that are not created or modified during the upgrade process. Because the custom work is not touched by the upgrade, the impact of a core upgrade on the system is minimal.

Although the system mitigates as many issues as possible, full testing of all products must be done for each build and version upgrade.

Responsibilities

GeoTalent supports customizations that are performed by our client services staff under the conditions of the Statement of Work signed by the customer before the work is performed.

All customizations created by GeoMetrix are supported through build and version upgrades by Client Services. Custom work done by GeoMetrix that requires adjustment in order to function correctly with a subsequent build will not be billable.

All customizations not created by GeoMetrix are the responsibility of customer. Upon testing of a new build or version of the software, if it is determined that there is a problem with a customization, GeoMetrix Client Services may be consulted at a standard billable rate.

Testing Upgrades

While the GeoTalent attempts to limit the impact of an upgrade, full testing must be done on the system to ensure changes to the default functionality do not adversely affect any customizations. Build and version upgrade must be applied to a development system and tested before pushing the changes to production.
It is the responsibility of the customer to test the system fully after installing a new build or version. All customizations should be well documented and a test script should be created in order to ensure that all modifications have been covered in the testing.

It is also the responsibility of the customer to check the release notes (available on GeoTalent Support site) for the latest changes in default functionality. Because custom work done by the customer is no longer on the upgrade path (i.e., it is not touched during an upgrade), product fixes and new features will NOT be applied to any custom work. The customer is responsible for determining what changes are necessary to correctly implement fixes and new features to any customizations.

If it is determined during testing that there is an issue with the GeoTalent program and / or default online elements, GeoTalent Support will become involved. Once the issue is verified, the issue will be forwarded to the development department for resolution in a future release.
